cioppino: a recipe

posted on: Tuesday, May 8, 2012

confession:
i watch the Food Network on the little tv while i'm on the treadmill.
depending on when i workout,
it's usually either Barefoot Contessa
or Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.
oh Guy Fieri.
that bleach-blonde hair gets me every time.

this time it was Best Thing I Ever Made
and Guy was talking about his Nor Cal Cioppino
i was both starving,
and inspired
so the next day i went for it

many many sea creatures

fresh parsley

ranunculus and succulents on the dining room table. i'm so trendy.

finished product.

full meal.
i made this for Nick
after he'd had a particularly rough day at work
he's told me about how his Nonna used to make Cioppino
in Santa Cruz, CA
using the fresh catch the fishermen in the family would bring home from the wharf
i was channeling her the whole time.

funny story, though....
...Nick doesn't like Cioppino.

boom.
marriage strikes again.

funny story, part two...
...i'm allergic to shrimp.
hives.
everywhere.

someone once said not to let bloggers make you feel inferior
because you're comparing your behind-the-scenes
to their highlight reel.
well friends,
this is the behind the scenes.

you're welcome.

  1. Oh no! I once got my husband a present thinking it had special meaning & turns out that nope, it never had any meaning at all & was actually related to something his ex got him. Awkward!

Hope the hives are doing better!

  3. That is one fancy, well-made dish! Too bad neither of you were able to fully enjoy it. We're huge suckers for Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives- and keep saying someday we'll plan a U.S. road trip around the diners on it! At least y'all got a good laugh/story out of the Cioppino... right??

  4. Probably 50% of my TV watching is Food Network or Cooking Channel! This looks fabulous! Too bad it didn't turn out as well as you'd hoped. :(

  7. for some reason, I could run for days if i'm watching the food network. seriously. and also, this recipe looks bomb. Although, I think I would die if I was allergic to shrimp. that would be a sad sad day for me.
